THE SKIING...
In a word - massive! 1600 is part of Les Arcs, which
has 200km of pistes, 118 snow sure slopes and a network of 58 lifts carrying skiers around the mountains and up
to the peak elevation of 3,226m. Together with La Plagne, Les Arcs forms the Paradiski domain - over 400km of skiing.
With great ski convenience, most accommodation is ski in /out, and the efficient lift system means that you can
be skiing within minutes of leaving your apartment! Les Arcs offers a wide range of terrain, from runs through
thick forests, to wide open bowls and glacial skiing. The skiing in Arc 1600 is generally through scenic wooded
terrain, and from the heart of the village, 3 lifts ferry passengers quickly and efficiently to the other areas
of the resort. Our accommodation is in the centre
of the village and at the foot of the slopes.
There is a choice of ski schools at Arcs 1600 itself,
Bourg St Maurice (reached in 7 minutes via funicular), Arcs 1800 and beyond.
SNOW RELIABILITY...
Les Arcs and Paradiski enjoy excellent snowfall and
snow records, with a top lift of 3226m. There are extensive snow-making facilties too. At time of writing (1/5/09)
there is still 145cm of snow at Arcs 3000 and a temperature of -2!
OUR ACCOMMODATION IN ARC 1600...
Our accommodation is in the centre of the village
and at the foot of the slopes.
Residence Le Roc Belle Face is a new residence of 115
apartments over 15 storeys (with lift), set on the mountainside, at the foot of the slopes (ski in / ski out) and
in the centre of Arc 1600.
THE VILLAGE...
Arcs 1600 is a purpose built ski resort, with very
convenient skiing - it's not going to win awards for it's beauty! However, as the longest established of the Arcs
villages, it has a charm of it's own, a pedestrianised centre with a good choice of shops, cafes and restaurants,
as well as a couple of mini-markets making it a great choice for a self-catering holiday, with excellent and easy
access to the slopes.
If you are looking for traditional Savoyarde charm, Bourg St Maurice is the base village and can be reached in
just 7 minutes via the funicular train, or if you are driving, in 15 minutes. There are more specialist shops,
restaurants and cafes etc here, as well as a larger supermarket.
1600 is considered to be a good family resort with a wide range of activities, besides skiing and snow-boarding,
for all ages, including:
- Paragliding
- Dog sledding
- Swimming - our accommodation has it's own pool, free
to guests, and spa/steam room (local charge)
- Pedestrian use of some lifts - why not join your friends
for lunch on the mountain?
- Ski Joering - being pulled along on skis.....by a horse!
- Visit the Ice Caves
There is a programme of activities and events each season.
The Tourist Office in the village, can advise what is available, where and when.
There are several ski schools in Arcs 1600, 1800, Bourg St Maurice etc, and non-skiing children are also well-catered
for - Les Arcs holds the coveted Famille Plus de Montagne for it's facilities. There is a day nursery for children

ACCESS...
The nearest airport is Chambery, about 1hr 45 mins
drive. However, Les Arcs is very accessible by train, with Eurostar, the Snow Train and SNCF all stopping at Bourg
St Maurice, from where the funicular takes just 7 minutes to reach 1600. The drive from the Channel Ports is about
11 hours plus stops, but this will be increased at busy times such as New Year and Half Term or in poor weather.
