THE SKIING...
Cauterets has 2 ski domains - Le Cirque de Lys, with 40km of marked piste, lots of off-piste, is a mix of mainly blue and red runs but good nursery slopes and excellent ski schools with English speaking instructors. The other domain, Pont D'Espagne, is primarily a cross-country ski station, set in the beautiful Pyrenean National Park. It has over 36km of trails but also 2 downhill runs and nursery slopes and a toboggan area. The FREESTYLE space, located at the Cirque du Lys offers great boarding with 10 tables, 1 hip, 5 rails, a beginner’s track with 10 domes and one boardercross of 1000m.

This lovely area offers a great alternative to the Alps, especially for beginner or novice skiers, families or those looking for something other than just skiing! With snow, sunshine and spas, there really is something for everyone.

Low cost flights to Perpignan, Pau, Toulouse, Barcelona or Girona will bring you within an hour or two of this stunning area, which is little known by the British. The French Pyrenees has the highest number of sunshine hours in France and 9 ski stations. Of these, we offer excellent accommodation in Les Angles, Cauterets (known by some, as the Chamonix of the Pyrenees) and Luchon in the Superbagneres area. The region oozes charm with stone built villages, pine-forests lining the pistes, and has over 280km of pisted skiing covering all abilities, 8 snowparks and lifts up to 2700m. There are nearly 300km of pisted cross-country skiing. Lift passes can be purchased for each ski station or a combined pass “the Neiges Catalanes pass” covers the whole area. The area is excellent for beginners with good ski schools and lots of easier pistes. More experienced skiers can explore a new area each day on their holiday giving a real change of scenery and style. Plenty to offer the non skier and those looking for something to do on a day off, including Husky sledging, thermal spas and natural hot pools, snow shoeing, an animal park, casinos, good restaurants and much more. This area is also excellent for summer holidays with walking, cycling, mountain-biking, swimming, golf etc.

SNOW RELIABILITY...
Situated high in the Pyrenees, with a ski area from 1730m to 2500m, Cauterets has an excellent snow record.

THE VILLAGE...
History is everywhere in Cauterets. From Ancient Rome to the roaring twenties, it shows right away in the architecture, which gives the village a quite different ambience from the usual resorts of the Alps

Cauterets has quite a cosmopolitan appearance – almost like a small city in the mountains, or a village with elegant urban aspects. Cauterets has a unique charm, with much of it’s architecture having echoes of Chamonix. There are plenty of bars, restaurants, cafes, ski shops, grocery and specialist food shops, plus wine cellars. Mother Nature has been especially generous: The hot springs made it the high society Pyrenean capital during the roaring twenties; then the 60s
enabled its rise in the white gold industry. There are thermal spa treatments available both in the town itself and within our accommodation. With the beauty of the surrounding mountains, the great skiing, thermal springs, bars, cafes and restaurants, Cauterets has all the ingredients for an excellent holiday, without breaking the bank.

ACCESS...
Closest airport is Lourdes-Tarbes-Pyrénées (35Km), followed by Pau-Pyrénées (80 km) and Toulouse-Blagnac (204 km). You can drive from the ports (Caen and Le Havre) - allow around 11 hours, plus stops, or the Channel ports in about 12 hours plus stops. This will obviously vary according to weather and traffic conditions and the time of year. Peak weeks such as New Year and February half term can make the roads much busier than normal.
