THE SKIING...
Champagny-en-Vanoise is part of La Plagne, consisting
of 10 ski stations set high in the Savoie. Linked to Les Arcs, the area forms Paradiski, which has access to 425km
of pistes, 140 lifts, 232 ski runs, 2 skiable glaciers (La Chaupe in La Plagne Bellecôte and Le Varet in
Les Arcs) as well as some of the highest peaks (Bellecôte - 3416m and Aiguille Rouge - 3226m). The skiing
is varied and offers something for every level of skier.
For snowboarders, there are 3 snowparks including a half-pipe.
ESF ski school offers a range of private and group lessons
including children (from ages 3 – 13). There is a Nursery from age 2 – 6. Free lift passes for children under 6.
SNOW RELIABILITY...
Paradiski (La Plagne and Les Arcs) has excellent
snow reliability, due partly to it’s Mont Blanc-facing slopes, and also to an extensive system of snow cannons.
There has been new investment in snow-making to ensure that the links between south and north sides remain skiable.
OUR ACCOMMODATION IN CHAMPAGNY...
We are pleased to offer the excellent Alpages de
Champagny, a high quality residence with indoor heated swimming pool, free for guests’ use. We have 4 and 6 person
apartments here, but can also check availability of the 2 person studios and larger apartments for up to 10.
There are four 4-storey chalet-style buildings (with
lifts) divided into 66 apartments, with superb panoramic views over the village and valley. Residence is located
1km from the centre of Champagny, and 1.5km from the gondola and ESF ski school. Free public shuttle bus service
operates during the French school holidays.
Facilities include gym, communal lounge with open fire.
Loan of cots & high chairs for children under 2 (subject to availability - state at time of booking). Payable
locally: Sauna and steam room (€8/session, €39 for 7 sessions, 1 free sauna or steam room session/apt/week). Bakery
service (you can order fresh bread/croissants etc the evening before, for collection from Reception the following
morning). WiFi. Pool table.
All apartments have a well-equipped kitchenette with microwave, oven, ceramic hob and dishwasher, telephone, balcony
or terrace. Bed linen and towels are included in the price.
THE VILLAGE...
Champagny is one of the prettiest of La Plagnes villages.
The village has a good selection of shops, restaurants and après ski bars. There are ski hire shops in the
village centre and the ESF office is also conveniently placed at the base of the gondola station.
The St. Sigismond church of Champagny le Bas is an outstanding
example of the baroque Art in Savoy. It was rebuilt for the 3rd time in 1683, and it’s very simple exterior, contrasts
with sumptuous internal decoration, typical of the baroque Art : lots of gilding, lights, colours, curved lines
and cherubs!
A superb preserved valley, classified in ‘the natural
monuments and sites of France’ for its beautiful countryside and the preserved architecture of its villages. It
is also the Gateway to the national Park of Vanoise, (the oldest National Park in France, founded in 1963) and
one of the most beautiful sites for cross country skiing activities in the region.
The cable car from the village centre takes 8 minutes to reach an altitude of 2000m and the southern slopes. This
offers a vast area for skiing and snowboarding.
ACCESS...
Geneva airport is the closest at just over two hours
drive away. You can drive from the Channel Ports - allow around 10 hours, plus stops. This will obviously vary
according to weather and traffic conditions and the time of year. Peak weeks such as New Year and February half
term can make the roads much busier than normal.
