THE SKIING...
La Tania is part of the world-renowned 3 Valleys
– Les Trois
Vallées – which, with 600km of pistes is huge! The 3 Valleys is served by over 200 lifts. However, you don’t
have to obtain the full 3 Valleys area lift pass, to enjoy varied and challenging skiing. The La Tania local pass
covers Courchevel too, which consists of villages at altitudes 1300, 1550, 1650 and 1850.

We have skied in La Tania with a group ranging from skiers
with 20+ years ski experience, to two children in their first year out of ski school. It’s possible to set off
from the village centre and, taking the gondola and one or two chairs, reach the higher points of La Tania, skiing
back to the village on blue and green pistes – a great confidence booster for a novice skier or if a little nervous.
It can be done on red and black too, of course!
After taking the gondola from La Tania centre, you can
ski down to Courchevel 1850, well known as a Millionaire’s Paradise, and indulge in some celebrity-spotting. Or
you can just enjoy the well-groomed pistes and efficient lift system and make your way back to La Tania centre
for lunch or an après ski beer.
There is a choice of ski schools including the ESF (Ecole
du Ski Francais), and the British-run, Magic in Motion.
SNOW RELIABILITY...
The 3 Valleys enjoys an enviable record of snow reliability.
There is an extensive system of snow cannons which can ensure good cover if needed. Last season2007/08, for example,
had excellent snow conditions through to the end of April with good snow depths from mid-December onwards
OUR ACCOMMODATION IN LA TANIA...
We are delighted to offer four excellent properties
in La Tania, all owned by the same owner and so decorated and furnished in similar shades of cream and warm reds.
The same high level of management and care for property and guest, also applies to all properties.

Chalets Felice and Philipe are inter-connected, so can
be let as one large building, sleeping up to 27 in 13 bedrooms. They can also be let as completely self-contained
units – Felice sleeps up to 15 in 7 bedrooms, and Philipe sleeps 12 in 6 bedrooms. Most rooms have en suite shower-rooms
with basin and WC, with a couple of rooms sharing one shower-room to two bedrooms. The location is excellent being
about 150m from the village centre.
THE VILLAGE...
La Tania is a purpose built resort – originally a
small hamlet between Meribel and Courchevel - and was developed as a dormitory town for the 1992 Winter Olympics.
It has now grown into a compact and convenient mountain village. The centre is architect-designed (Jacques Labro)
and uses natural materials wherever possible.
What is really great about La Tania is the convenience
of everything for skiers and non-skiers – wonderful if families are holidaying together. The village centre has
some bars with live music and others that are quieter. There are cafes and restaurants as well as gift shops, ski
shops, ski hire and ski school offices, along with a small but well-stocked supermarket.
An excellent feature is the free drag lift in the middle
of the village, which serves the ski school, but can be used by anyone wanting to practice their turns. When the
lifts close at around 5.00 pm, the nursery pistes become toboganning runs, and parents can sit with an après-ski
coffee or beer, whilst watching their children exhaust themselves running up and sledging down.
STAFF REVIEW...
We
were quite a mixed group: gran and granddad no longer skiing, two forty-somethings who wanted to learn cross country
skiing, two teenagers who could ski moderately well and two children - absolute beginners. We were recommended
to go to la Tania, in the Trois Vallees region of the French Alps - and take a large apartment overlooking the
nursery slops. It was perfect! La Tania - purpose built for the French ski Olympics 12 years ago - is a delight:
compact, very pretty and well designed with no through traffic - you walk or ski down the High Street! From the
balcony of our apartment, we were able to watch the grandchildren skiing - until they progressed to the higher
slopes - and the exciting torchlit descent which included the children and their instructors. We were all able
to walk or ski to everything - ski lessons, shops, cross-country ski trails, bars. The only time I had to get the
car out was when one of the teenagers fell (trying snowboarding!) and broke her wrist and I had to drive to Courchevel
to the medical centre. Even this was an impressive experience, as Rebecca was seen, X-rayed and plastered up within
a couple of hours. The sun shone, the snow was perfect - a fantastic week in La Tania.
ACCESS...
Geneva, Lyon, Chambery and Grenoble all serve La
Tania and the 3 Valleys in general, with Chambery about the closest at 1.5 hours drive away. You can drive from
the Channel Ports - allow around 11 hours, plus stops. This will obviously vary according to weather and traffic
conditions and the time of year. Peak weeks such as New Year and February half term can make the roads much busier
than normal.
