THE SKIING...
Meribel is a world-renowned ski resort and part of
the equally well-known Three Valleys domain. With 600km of skiing, the 3 Valleys is one of the world's biggest
ski areas. Meribel is at the heart of the ski area and offers something for everyone.
There are 8 black, 23 red, 35 blue and 9 green pistes ranging from the gentlest to the most exhilarating! With
over 50 lifts (15 high capacity gondolas, 17 chair-lifts (including one 8-seater and six 6-seater), 13 drag-lifts,
8 telebabies and 2 moving walkways) uplift is efficient and fast. This is in Meribel alone, with many more km of
skiing available across the entire 3 Valleys - there are 200 lifts in total. There is extensive snow making to
ensure good cover - 697 snow cannons at last count!
Meribel offers a choice of ski schools with group and
private lessons available. Children are accepted from the age of 4. There are also 55 miles of cross-country skiing
tracks and the more adventurous can try heli-skiing.
SNOW RELIABILITY...
The 3 Valleys has an excellent snow record with skiing
from mid-December through to late April. There are extensive snow-making facilities too. In 2009/10 season, the
lifts are scheduled to run from December 5th to April 25th.
OUR ACCOMMODATION IN ARC 1600...
Our accommodation is in Les Allues, a charming and
friendly village just outside Meribel, and the oldest village in the 3 Valleys. It offers a traditional and charming
location, but with a gondola which links into the main Meribel lift system. .
Travelling to Meribel Centre is easy, with both a Gondola
and bus link, returning from the slopes is even better, as there is a run which takes you straight back into Les
Allues.
THE VILLAGE...
Meribel offers an enviable selection of activities,
summer and winter, with skiing and snow boarding at the forefront. However, you can also choose to relax in the
spa centres, cinema, swimming pool, bowling, try the snow-mobiles, have figure-skating lessons, go shopping or
enjoy a drink, dance or meal in one of Meribel's many restaurants, bars and discos.
Les Allues itself, is a pretty, traditional Savoyarde
village offering a more peaceful ambience and base within the 3 Valleys, yet with very convenient links into the
main system. It has it's own good little selection of shops, restaurants and bars as well as a crèche.
ACCESS...
The nearest airport is Chambery, less than 1.5 hours/110km
away, but Lyon, Grenoble, Geneva, and Lyon are all accessible. The drive from the Channel Ports is about 11 hours
plus stops, but this will be increased at busy times such as New Year and Half Term or in poor weather.
