THE SKIING...
Samoëns is part of the Grand Massif ski domain, with 265 km of pistes, 75 lifts and 5 interlinked
resorts (Morillon, Samoëns, Les Carroz, Sixt Fer à Cheval and Flaine). The skiing domain is from 1600m
to 2500m. For a long time, the area was used as a training ground by Antoine Deneriaz, a native of Morillon, who
won the gold medal in the downhill event at the Turin Winter Olympics on 12 February 2006.

Thanks to its geographical location, the Grand Massif
enjoys abundant, regular snowfalls throughout the season, and the area is well known for the quality of the snow
in spring. With 80% of the slopes north-facing, this allows the snow to lie for longer and remain in good condition.
The Grand Massif features some exceptional spots:
- The Combe de Gers with its dizzying 800 m drop!
- The blue Cascades piste running for 14 km from the summit
at Flaine to Sixt Fer à Cheval
- The Marvel piste that provides beginners with a 5 km
run through the heart of a forest.
- The skiing is accessed from our accommodation, via the
Grand Massif Express cable car or the Morillon Chair lift
Morillon is, like Samoëns, a resort which is suitable for both winter and summer activities.
During the winter, Morillon offers great opportunities for alpine skiing, cross country skiing, airborne sports
and a lot of other activities. The summer in Morillon offers activities such as hiking, climbing, fishing, bathing,
canoeing, rafting and potholing. The surrounding area is outstandingly beautiful and all this is within an hour
of Geneva.
Morillon is located in the French northern Alps in Haute
Savoie and is part of the Grand Massif ski area, offering a total of 265 km of slopes. The area extends from 1660m
to 2500m, with 1000 acres of traced slopes, and 75 ski lifts. The village itself is ideal for family and novice
skiing, and an excellent base for accessing the more extensive Grand Massif. Morillon also holds the official ‘Famille Plus Montagne’ label for its superb children
facilities.
Part of the 4th largest ski area in the world, Les Carroz
is situated within an hour of Geneva Airport and within an easy drive of the ferries and channel tunnel at Calais.
It maintains a traditional feel, free from sprawling concrete blocks and the inevitable chaos of package tour operator
resorts. Instead, the charm and warmth of the architecture and local inhabitants conveys a happy and relaxed atmosphere,
but small town charm doesn't mean small town skiing. Les Carroz has a snow record envied by most resorts and 270km
of pistes at your disposal. Whatever your standard or preference, Les Carroz has more than enough slopes and kilometres
for all abilities. From the gentlest of beginner slopes to challenging off-piste, and the thrills and spills of
the fun park. There are even snow scooters for those mad enough to try. What's more, Les Carroz is ideally situated
to use as a base to explore other amazing ski areas such as the Porte du Soleil and Chamonix resorts.
SNOW RELIABILITY...
The Grand Massif enjoys an enviable record of snow
reliability, due partly to it’s proximity to Mont Blanc, and partly to those north facing slopes. The area usually
has excellent snow conditions through to the end of April with good snow depths from mid-December onwards.
OUR ACCOMMODATION IN SAMOENS & MORRILLON...
We are delighted to offer two beautiful catered properties
in Samoëns, owned by the same proprietor and enjoying the same high level of management, and care for property
and guest.

We can also offer an excellent and very stylish, self-catered
chalet - Chalet Scandi - which sleeps 8 and enjoys fabulous views from it’s huge windows. This property is in the
neighbouring village of Morillon..
THE VILLAGE...
Samoëns is officially one of France’s prettiest villages. It is the only ski resort in France
to be listed as a ‘Monument Historique’ and has mediavel fountains , old buildings, lots of shops, bars, cafes
and restaurants. There is also a local market on Wednesdays. Samoëns has just been declared winner of the
Best Small Resort (Europe) by the prestigious Hardy's Skiing and Snowboarding Guide 2009. Not only does the village
itself claim the top award, but also the Neige et Roc has won the Hardy's Skiing and Snowboarding Best Resort Restaurant
(Europe) 2009 award.
Like Samoëns, Morillon is unspolit,
typically French village resort – very friendly and welcoming, with good restaurants and bars, boulangeries and
local craft shops.
Les Carroz is a busy bustling French village within the
Grand Massif ski domain which links Flaine, Samoens, and Morillon. It is one of the most snow-sure regions in the
French Alps and provides a great place for a skiing for skiers/boarders of all abilities, both on and off the piste.
ACCESS...
Geneva is the closest airport, 65 km away and less
than an hour’s drive. You can drive from the Channel Ports - allow around 9 hours, plus stops. This will obviously
vary according to weather and traffic conditions and the time of year. Peak weeks such as New Year and February
half term can make the roads much busier than normal. There is also a train service to Cluses, which is only 20
minutes from Samoens. Train information can be found here - SNCF Office on +33 (0)8 92 35 35 35 or website SNCF.

COMMENTS FROM PREVIOUS GUESTS...
'The chalet was very nice with an excellent view. It catered
for us very well with plenty of space. It was also a very warm chalet with everything you needed for cooking etc.
Catherine looked after us taking us to and from the lifts each day, this took about 10 minutes, we had a choice
of about 3 lifts to go to, the main ones such as the Grand Massif or Morillon did get busy in the morning (it was
half term week), but there was another older lift at Vercland which was much much quieter. The skiing area in the
Grand Massif is very good and on our stay the snow was fantastic. Catherine also took us to the local supermarket
which was about 10-15 mi ns drive. The actual village of Samoens is very nice. Many thanks again for finding us
the chalet at such short notice'
