THE SKIING...
With 250km of runs, Serre Chevalier is one of the
Alps' biggest ski areas. The resort, comprising of 13 villages, is spread over 4 areas: Briancon, Chantemerle (where
our accommodation is located), Villeneuve la Salle and le Monêtier les Bains. It is also at the gates of
the Ecrins National Park. Great skiing in a mountain atmosphere, peaceful skiing in larch woods, family skiing
in specially designed areas... There's something for everyone in Serre Chevalier!
There are 115 pistes ranging from the gentlest to the most exhilarating... all with 300 days of sunshine per year!
With 66 lifts (3 cable cars, 5 gondolas, 9 high speed chairs, 12 standard chairs and 37 drag lifts) uplift is efficient
and fast. There is extensive snow making to ensure good cover.

There is a choice of ski schools in Chantermerle, offering
group and private lessons and children can join Le Club Piou-Piou from age 3. As with many of our resorts, Serre
Chevalier has the coveted Famille Plus de Montagne accreditation.
Our accommodation is in Chantemerle, which in 1941 opened the Chantemerle 'téléphérique' or
cable car, as the area's first ski lift and the longest in Europe. By the 1950s the resort was really starting
to take off and is now a popular and well-established venue for skiing, with a traditional feel to the village
and it's atmosphere.
SNOW RELIABILITY...
Serre Chevalier is in France's Hautes-Alpes department,
part of the PACA or Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region. The Hautes-Alpes is France's only department in the
alpine chain situated entirely in the mountains, making it the highest department in the Alps. It has an excellent
snow record as well as extensive snow-making which, together with over 300 days of sunshine, makes an enviable
combination.
OUR ACCOMMODATION IN SERRE CHEVALIER/CHANTEMARLE...
At the heart of the Alps and just 200m from the pretty
village of Chantemerle, the Hameau du Rocher Blanc is a small group of six high quality, 4-storey chalet-style
residences divided into 79 apartments in the popular Serre Chevalier area.

Whether you want to relax and enjoy the fresh air, sample
the local wines, cured meats and cheeses, this area is truly astounding in Summer, and the valley below is perfect
for climbers, cyclists and runners. The timeless surroundings offer a warm welcome and are the venue for the multitude
of activities on offer.
THE VILLAGE...
Above Serre Chevalier rise the mountains of the Ecrins
National Park and the area's main asset is its climate, which is both Mediterranean and alpine in influence. With
its protected environment and its clean and pure air, far from the traffic and the pollution of big cities, it
has become a haven of health and well-being for its visitors.
History has left Serre Chevalier with a rich heritage and it acts as a beacon for the cultural identity of the
region. Among the visible signs of this identity are the guardian-like 15th century clock towers built in the Lombard
Romanesque style that appear in virtually all of hamlets in the valley.
Serre Chevalier is also blessed with natural hot springs that have been bubbling away in Le Monêtier les
Bains (Serre Chevalier 1500) since the dawn of time. This is currently the only resort in the Provence-Alpes-Côte
d'Azur region able to offer its customers a naturally heated swimming pool. The water rises to the surface at 44°C
and cools as it is used in the outdoor and indoor pools (36°C) as well as individual tubs. It retains its healing
properties and is beneficial in the treatment of rheumatism and skin conditions, and most of all it's a great way
to relax and recover at the end of the day. At night and during the day, there is nothing nicer than taking a relaxing
dip in a hot tub while taking in the magnificent views of the surrounding glaciers, peaks and larch forests
As well as the historical and cultural aspects of the resort, Serre Chevalier boasts a good range of restaurants,
cafes, shops and bars - there are charcuterie (butchers), boulangeries, craft shops, chemists, sports shops etc.
For non-skiers, there are skating rinks, paragliding, or snowmobiles, or simply relax in Les Grandes Bains des
Monetier the spa centre which features pools, Roman baths, Jacuzzis, water shutes and beauty treatments. Children
can toboggan, enjoy the playgrounds and children's clubs, go snowmobiling or - of course - ski!
ACCESS...
The nearest airport is Turin, 1.5 hours/110km away,
but Lyon, Grenoble, Geneva, and Lyon are all accessible. The drive from the Channel Ports is about 12 hours plus
stops, but this will be increased at busy times such as New Year and Half Term or in poor weather.
