THE SKIING...
At 1430m, Valloire offers reliable snow conditions
from December to April, with the majority of the skiing, above 2000m. There are also nearly 400 snow cannons to
ensure great cover. The two ski areas of Crey du Quart and Le Setaz offer a good range of nursery, blue, red, and
black runs. There is a choice of ski school including ESF and ESI, and both group and private lessons can be arranged.
Children are accepted into ski school from age 4 (at certain times, age 3, so please check with the ski school
you choose) and have fun lessons get them started. Lift passes are free under for the under-6 year olds. Valloire
holds the coveted Famille Plus de Montagne for it's family facilities. There is a day nursery for children from
6 months to 6 years.
- 150 km of slopes between 1,430 and 2,600 meters - the
north-facing slopes give excellent conditions.
- 70% of the ski area is located above 2 000 m high,
- 33 ski lifts and 85 slopes of every level
- An uplift capacity of more than 42 000 skiers / hour.
- 3 slalom slopes and two competition slopes
- Freestyle areas
- 10 picnic areas
For Snowboarders, there is a fantastic snow park with
different areas dependent on your experience, including the Ski Cross (blue level for everyone), Easy Park (a play
zone with whoops, curves and jumps for all levels), Half-pipe, Expert Zone (red and black level moguls) as well
as the Cool Zone with music and picnic areas.
There is also the ARVA park alongside the Snow Park - lots of advice and demonstrations of avalanche rescue techniques
SNOW RELIABILITY...
Valloire has mainly north facing pistes and with
the village at 1430m and skiing possible up to 2600m, the snow record here is excellent. This season (08/09) the
lifts were open from mid-December with some still open 20/4!
OUR ACCOMMODATION IN VALLOIRE...
A lovely, recently built residence made up of 2 groups
of 5 traditional-style chalets (with lift).
We have a good range of apartments in this residence,
which is located at the foot of the slopes (ski back to door), 200m maximum from the ski-lifts and 1km from the
resort centre (free shuttle bus to resort centre departs from outside the residence). There are two indoor swimming
pools, free for guests.
THE VILLAGE...
Valloire, is a charming and traditional village ski
resort, in the Galibier mountain range. The area is a natural bridge between the Northern and Southern Alps. The
surrounding mountains and forests are stunningly beautiful and the village boasts many old stone buildings and
Baroque churches, with the more modern buildings in keeping with tradition.
It is a good family resort with a wide range of activities, besides skiing and snow-boarding, for all ages, including:
Open air ice rink
Fitness centre offering spa facilities
Paragliding
Dog sledding
Adventure park
Farm visits where you can buy local specialities.
IIn late December, there is a two day Christmas craft market in Valloire, and in January, the village hosts an
ice sculpture contest. There is a good range of restaurants and bars available, from take-away creperies, to pizza
places and also more formal dining. The village has banks, a post office, doctor and pharmacy, as well as all the
usual shops, boulangeries etc.
There are several ski schools in Valloire, and non-skiing children are also well-catered for - Valloire holds the
coveted Famille Plus de Montagne for it's facilities. There is a day nursery for children from 6 months to 6 years.
ACCESS...
The nearest airport is Chambery, just over 1.5 hours/100km
away, but in order of distance, Grenoble, Geneva, and Lyon are all accessible. The drive from the Channel Ports
is about 11 hours plus stops, but this will be increased at busy times such as New Year and Half Term or in poor
weather.
